Drunk on Bold: Finding Clothing That Makes You Feel Confident

I have struggled with not being confident my entire life.  When I took the giant step into the fashion blogging universe, I realized that a lack of confidence totally doesn’t fly.  There are so many beautiful ladies in this industry, and after a several months of feeling like I didn’t add up, I sat down with myself one night and just said, “Stephanie, quit it.  You are beautiful exactly the way you are, and no one else is like you, so own that ish.”  Then I made a second decision.  I was going to shop only for clothing that made me feel just as confident on the outside as I was hyping myself up to be on the inside.  I recently partnered up with Kat+Porto and I was so thrilled when I found this stunning MINKPINK playsuit on their website.  When I received it in the mail, I can’t even begin to explain the feeling that came over me when I tried it on.  It was like I had literally slipped on a magical piece of fabric coated in pure confidence.

The first thing about this piece that I fell in love with was the unique patterning.  The fun mandala shapes were unique and different from so many of the prints I have been seeing recently.  I also loved the colors they chose to fill in the pattern.  From the subtle teals and yellows, to the coral, pink, and red tones, this piece made me happy just by looking at it.  What made me feel the most confident was the way it fit.  Rompers and jumpsuits can be terribly uncomfortable on me due to my long legs and torso.  Sometimes they pull at my stomach, or gather strangely at the waist.  Sometimes they’re too short or pull down too low at the neckline.  This one, however, fit to a T.  I didn’t feel like I had to crouch over to be comfortable, and I’m not constantly yanking down the shorts to cover my booty.  And while it has quite the open back, it’s super easy to put on a sticky bra and go, or even wear a lace bralette underneath! I used to be terrified of wearing heels, because they always made me “too tall” around my friends or even my boyfriends in the past.  Now, I wear them constantly.  Not because I want to make my friends feel short, but because heels make me feel great.  When I look at my legs while wearing high heels, I actually love them – and that’s 100% alright!  So wear heels if they make you feel like a queen.  If someone says you’re too tall or you wear them too much, just shake it off and say “whatever, I look fabulous” and werk those Loubs.

My number one tip for finding clothing that makes you feel confident is super simple: wear what you like and what makes you feel like you look amazing.  Honestly that’s all there is to it.  I know that fashion has a lot to do with trends, but sometimes you’ve got to ignore them for your own sake.  If you follow too hard in them, you won’t feel confident at all.  You’ll be wearing what everyone else is wearing and then comparing yourself to them while wearing it – in other words, no bueno.  So when you go out shopping this weekend, take into account how you really feel in your clothing.  If you’re looking into the mirror and saying “OH HEEEEY GIRL, you look dynamite,” that’s when you snatch that outfit up right away.  You’ve got this!  Happy weekend, babes!

That’s such a super important thing that I think so many people forget! I used to wear things all the time just because they were trendy or because my friends wore it, but I never really liked wearing it. Now, I only wear something if I’m totally in love with it!

“Own that ish!” haha I love that and it is so true! It took me a long time to realize that my uniqueness is what makes me beautiful in the first place. It is easy to look at other people and see their beauty and admire/accept their differences but as humans we are just so hard on ourselves!

Finding outfits that flatter your body type are definitely important too! I use to get so bummed out when I felt like I couldn’t pull off a certain trend because of my body type but then I finally realized that I just needed to get over it and wear what I know works best for me because at the end of the day I would feel so much better in clothes that I felt comfortable and confident in! Love this post Stephanie!

Hahah YES girl! I hear that! It can be such a struggle especially for us ladies in the dog-eat-dog fashion industry to be accepting of ourselves. But it feels absolutely incredible when we realize it’s what makes us unique and different that also makes us beautiful! And girl you are SO beautiful!

Aw thank you! It’s been fun lately finding new backgrounds and locations for my blog. I had been stuck in a rut for so long and now I’m loving all the bright summery shots I’m getting! 🙂

Love love love this post. We share a lot of the same feelings before starting our journeys. I still feel every now and then I’ll struggle to find clothing that makes me feel good, but that’s something we’re all going to experience so I’m okay with that since I’m not the only one 😉

I must say… you find the best backgrounds for photoshoots! All those pretty sceneries and colors on the walls! My city is boring.

    Love,
    Quynh
