Drunk on a Torso: Swimsuits That Flatter a Long & Lean Build

When I was younger, everyone suggested that I play basketball or volleyball.  I didn’t enjoy either of them, because I’m not a sports person (unless it’s dancing), but the reasoning behind the suggestion was because I was tall.  I was definitely taller-than-average as a pre-teen, and even into my teenage and adult years I was seen as a giant to some – though I’m actually only 5’6″.  My body build is long and lean, with very little curves, and that has made it a challenge to wear many different kinds of clothing.  I’ve had to search for pants that actually go all the way to my ankles,  and bodysuits and one-piece swimwear are pretty much out of the question because of my long torso!  This has been such a struggle this summer, since one-piece swimsuits have been the top trend, for sure!  I have searched many a store rack for a one-piece that would fit and flatter my body kind, but alas, they are not to be found.  So I found the best alternative: extra high waist bikinis!

I have discovered that high-waist bikinis are my favorite kind of swimsuits.  Taylor Swift was the first celebrity of this generation that I saw rock a retro high-waist like this and I completely fell in love with the style.  A fellow long and lean lady like myself wearing a suit that made her look like nothing but pure class.  The inspiration was most likely taken from the 60’s when bikinis first came onto the scene and made a huge splash in the fashion industry for women.  Now, they’re seen as a serious statement, and even major online publications such as Buzzfeed have shouted their praises to the HWB.

For someone that is relatively tall and has little-to-no curves, the high waisted bikini gives the illusion of a curvy build and only highlights the length of my body rather than making it seem disproportionate.  I 100% recommend these classy and retro swimsuits for all body types, but especially for ladies with an athletic or straight shape like mine.  I recently received this particular ‘kini from VIPme and honestly the bottoms are some of the most comfortable I have.  I don’t have to worry about them revealing too much when I bend over, and since they’re black, they add a natural slender appearance to my frame.  The top is super cute with it’s faux bow in a floral print.  I recently read an article by a blogger friend of mine about how ruffled, bow-style, or embellished bikini tops can really help enhance your upper half for the gals lacking in the chest department.
